Charlotte Hornets v Milwaukee Bucks

Charlotte Hornets (30-35) find themselves outside of postseason qualification in the east with just 17 games to go, and travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks (49-16) on Saturday.

Milwaukee Bucks

After suffering their first back-to-back loss of the season on Monday, Milwaukee bounced back strong, beating the Pacers by 19 their next time out. Milwaukee will go again on Saturday, playing the Hornets for the fourth time this season. The Bucks have won two of the three games played so far against Charlotte, thanks to the high level of performance from MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is averaging 26.3 points per game in three games against the Hornets this season and has had a dominant performance every time he’s played Charlotte, including a 34 point explosion by the forward in their last meeting in January. Giannis has been unbelievably productive over his last 10 games leading up to Saturday’s game, with the forward averaging 27.2 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 6.6 assists over the span. Considering Charlotte has been unable to slow down Giannis in any of the previous meetings this season, expect another stat-filled night for the “Greek Freak”.

The Bucks have set the standard for consistency in the NBA this season. Always in-form, the Bucks have an 8-2 record over the last 10 games. Milwaukee has an NBA-best record at home this season, going 26-5 in 31 home games. The Bucks are 4-1 in their last five games at home.

Milwaukee Bucks Expected Starting Lineup: Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brook Lopez

Charlotte Hornets

Just a week ago, the Charlotte Hornets were in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, taking up a playoff spot. Now, after losing five of their last seven games, the Hornets have dropped out of the top eight in the east. Charlotte is in 10th place, but still only a game back from the eighth and final playoff spot, currently occupied by the Miami Heat. The Hornets will need to make one last push in their 17 remaining games if they are to make the playoffs this season, and will likely rely on their guard play to get them there. Kemba Walker has been the Hornets main source of offense this season. The 28-year old is averaging 25.0 points and 5.8 assists per game this season. Walker has been in a mini-slump heading into Saturday night’s matchup with the Bucks. Walker has failed to score more than 20 points in each of his last three games, making him due for a big performance any night. Walker has averaged 24.0 points in three games against the Milwaukee Bucks this season, and is projected to have a big bounce back game versus the Bucks on Saturday.

The Hornets have lacked any kind of form as of late, going 3-7 in their last 10 games. The Hornets have been abysmal away from home this season, going 9-21 in 30 away games. Charlotte is 1-4 in their last five road games.

Charlotte Hornets Expected Starting Lineup: Kemba Walker, Miles Bridges, Nicolas Batum, Marvin Williams, Cody Zeller

  • The Charlotte Hornets have been trailing after the first quarter in nine straight games
  • The Bucks have one four home games against the Hornets in a row

Our Verdict and Best Bets

The Hornets and Bucks square off in a game with little playoff implication for Milwaukee, but plenty postseason implications implied for the Hornets. Charlotte has ground to make up for in the east as they are sitting outside of the top eight. Expect this urgency to play a factor in this one, as the Hornets will be playing with a growing desperation. The Bucks will be treating this game as a tune-up, as Milwaukee continue to assimilate Nikola Mirotic to the lineup. Look for a close game in this one, as the mindsets of the two teams will likely influence the outcome. A hungry Hornets team will keep this game tight, but the Bucks at home will be too much for Charlotte, as we see Milwaukee squeaking past the Hornets in this one.
