Fresh off a win against the second-best team in the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn is back on the winning track following a three-game losing streak. They take on the Chicago Bulls in their final home game before heading out on the road for tilts against the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers to finished out their pre All-Star break schedule. The Bulls make a quick stop in Brooklyn before heading back home for their final three games before the break, coming in with a two-game losing streak and 2-8 in their last ten.
Still dealing with key injuries, the Nets look forward to a much needed and earned break after being one of the surprise teams in the NBA. While Spencer Dinwiddie continues to rehab, Brooklyn got back sharp shooter Allen Crabbe against the Nuggets after missing his previous 25 games. Against the Bulls, they will also get back arguably their best player after a 42-game absence, giving them more depth at the wing position. Caris Levert returns after being out since November following a severe ankle sprain initially thought to be season ending. While there will be a minutes restriction to ease him in, this is a much needed boost for a Brooklyn team making a serious push for the playoffs. It’s like making big trade deadline deal without having to give anything up.

For the Bulls, it’s been a race to the bottom of the NBA standings with a 12-42 record. They have their sights set on a high draft pick which is almost all but guaranteed as long as they continue their losing ways. However, things got more interested for fans in Chicago and they just made a huge pre trade deadline splash in a deal late Wednesday with the Washington Wizards. The Bulls receive forward Otto Porter and his hefty contract in exchange for Bobby Portis, Jabari Parker, and a 2023 second round pick. Porter improves the small forward position and adds much needed lift on the defensive side of the ball. While losing Portis will hurt, they failed to come to terms with him on a rookie extension before the season and in all likely hood both players dealt weren’t going to return next year.
