This game features the NFC’s top two teams, both 14-3. Top seeded New Orleans Saints host the Los Angeles Rams. The league’s third best offense in points scored (31.5) against the second best (32.9), respectively. Points will be scored, a lot of them.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints put away the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles to get here, overcoming a 14-point first quarter deficit for a 20-14 win. Scoring 20 unanswered points, led by quarterback Drew Brees with 301 yards and two touchdowns on 28-for-38 passing. It was another big-time performance by wide receiver Michael Thomas, racking up 171 yards on 12 receptions. Alvin Kamara added 71 yards on the ground. This might be the best Saints team in recent history. The difference? Defense. For a team that’s been known for their offense, they finally shored up their defense.

Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will look to avenge their week 8 rematch. A high-flying act that saw the Saints win 45-35. The Saints took away their running game, holding Todd Gurley to 68 yards, though not a surprise considering they own the league’s second-best rushing defense, only allowing 80.2 yards per game. Wide receiver Michael Thomas scorched them for 211 yards receiving.
Los Angeles proved to have success with the run against good defenses, slashing the Cowboys for over 273 yards on the ground in the divisional round. They had two running backs rush for over 100 yards, C.J. Anderson with 123 and 115 for Todd Gurley. It made things easy for quarterback Jared Goff, who has a proven aerial attack to deploy as needed. With an offense that ranks second with 421.1 yards per game, fifth best in passing, and third best in rushing, they can beat you in many ways. However, New Orleans has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 25 straight games, thus the Rams may have to turn to the pass. It should be no problem for Goff, who threw for 4,688 yards on the year.

Our Verdict and Best Bets
Expect the scoreboard to light up in another high scoring close encounter. The team with the ball last may very well be the team to win it. The Saints are just too good at the dome and will move on to the big dance to face either the usual suspects, New England Patriots, or new kid on the block, the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Super Bowl also being played in a dome, it’s music to a team built to play indoors.
