New England Patriots v Kansas City Chiefs

Once again, it’s the Patriots in the AFC Conference game. Though this time they’re on the road, facing the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs. All eyes are on the weather with reports of an arctic blast, setting this game up for brutally cold temperatures. On paper this game is sure to feature some offensive fireworks. Kansas City owns the league’s best offense with 425.6 yards per game while lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 35.3 points per game. The Patriots are not far behind, with averages of 393.4 yards and 27.3 points per game.

Kansas City Chiefs

Defensively, a different story. The Chiefs defense is lacking, an understatement. They rank 31st of 32 teams in total yards and passing yards allowed, 27th in rushing yards, and 24th in points allowed. New England’s defense has fared better, though not great. However, they’ve been good in the most important stat, being 6th best in league points allowed with 20.3.

In the Chiefs’s divisional round match against the Colts, Quarterback phenom Patrick Mahomes led a solid balanced attack. Running back Damien Williams earned 129 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown, plus 5 receptions. Tight end Travis Kelce, a monster game with 108 yards on 7 catches.

New England Patriots

In their October meeting in New England, it did not disappoint. A, exciting affair ending with a 43-40 Patriots win. If that’s a foreshadow of things to come, we’ll be in for another treat. Both teams dominated their divisional round games. The same ole Patriots did what they normally do this time of year, dominated the Chargers 41-28. The score ended up being closer than it actually was. While the Chiefs barely broke a sweat, sending Andrew Luck and his Colts packing winning 31-13.

It was another stellar playoff performance for Tom Brady, throwing for 343 yards against the Chargers defense, completing 34-44 of passes with a touchdown. Running back Sony Michel racked up 129 yards on the ground. Wide receiver Julius Edelman gained 151 receiving yards on 9 receptions. The well-oiled machine is humming and poised for their typical deep run.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Yes, the Chiefs look unstoppable and have flashy toys. Yes, the Chiefs are 8-1 at home this year, and yes the Patriots are only 3-5 on the road. For some silly reason people keep doubting them this year. But they keep proving us wrong. It’s still the Patriots, it’s still Tom Brady, it’s still Bill Belichick. Until proven otherwise, it will be the Patriots in the Super bowl once more.

Point Spread, New England Patriots +3 @ 2.08 (13/12) with William Hill.
