A rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI, 17 years to the day. As heavy underdogs in that one, the New England Patriots beat the then St. Louis Rams to earn their first Super Bowl victory. A field goal as time expired sealed the win, 20-17. The now Los Angeles Rams took advantage of a blown call or two, advancing over the New Orleans Saints to face Super Bowl’s familiar foe. In their most recent meeting, the Patriots won 26-10 in 2016, and won in their last five matches dating back to their last Super Bowl faceoff.
New England Patriots
As one of only three teams in history to play in three straight Super Bowl’s, the Patriots are set to make their 11th big game appearance. The other two, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills (4-straight). With a win, New England ties the Pittsburg Steelers for the most Super Bowls in NFL history with six. They’re currently tied with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers with five a piece. It’ll also be the ninth for coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, most of any player in history. Considering the offensive prowess for both teams, the Rams ranking second best in scoring and Patriots fourth, this sets up as a high-octane affair.
The key so far for New England in the playoffs has been protecting quarterback Tom Brady, allowing a total of zero sacks in the playoffs. An impressive feat when factoring playoff games against a strong Chargers defense and a Kansas City Chiefs team that led the NFL in sacks. Brady just continues to add to an incredible legacy as the all-time Super Bowl leader in passing yards (2,576), completions (235), pass attempts (357), and touchdowns (18). One more win for Brady means he will pass kicker Adam Vinatieri for most wins of any player in NFL history with 237.

Los Angeles Rams
The Rams come in as slight underdogs. Though should be able to make some noise having the leagues 3rd best rushing attack with 139.4 yards per game, and 5th in passing with 281.7. The run game will be key for the Rams, led by Todd Gurley and his league leading 17 touchdowns on the ground this season.
Both defenses rank middle of the road stat-wise in points and yards allowed per game, however New England shines where it counts in points allowed, giving up only 20.3 per game, tied for sixth best in the league.

Our Verdict and Best Bets
The Rams are good, very good. But as long as Brady and Belichick are around, you just can’t count out the Patriots, ever. The New York Giants unlocked the blueprint for beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl (twice), and that’s by getting to Tom Brady. Though easier said than done. If the Rams can’t get to New England’s quarterback early and often, they’ll have no chance and this will be another notch in the legacy.
