Swansea City v Man City

FA Cup favorites’ Manchester City travel to Swansea City for a single leg tie in the quarter-finals.

Swansea City

Swansea City face their biggest challenge of the season this weekend when they host Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Championship side is currently 15th in the league standings with a 13-8-15 record through 36 matches. In the FA Cup, Swansea has benefitted from favorable draws, matching up with League One Gillingham and fellow Championship side Brentford in the previous rounds. Young winger Oliver McBurnie has been Swansea’s biggest threat going forward. The 22-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions. McBurnie has been struggling with injuries leading up to this quarter-final match, but is expected to make a return on Saturday, with manager Graham Potter refusing to rule out the Scottish international yet. If McBurnie is unable to go for Swansea, it will be a huge blow to The Swans already slim chances of taking out Manchester City.

Swansea are far from in-form ahead of their quarter-final matchup with City. The Swans are 2-0-4 in their last six matches. At home in the Championship this season, Swansea has played well, going 8-4-5 in 17 home games. In their last five home games across all competitions, Swansea has surprisingly been undefeated, going 4-1-0.

Swansea City FA Cup Form

17.02.2019 WIN Swansea City v Brentford 4 – 1 (HT 0 – 1) Fifth Round
26.01.2019 WIN Swansea City v Gillingham 4 – 1 (HT 2 – 0) Fourth Round

Man City

Manchester City are looking to cap off a week of huge results with a win against Swansea on Saturday. Pep and his squad is coming off of a 7-0 thumping of Schalke 04 in the Champions League. The possibility of “the quadruple” is still on for Manchester City. They have already captured the EFL Cup, are still alive in the Champions League, while also being the favorites to win the Premier League. The easiest of their remaining competitions on paper looks to be the FA Cup. City have smashed Swansea in their previous four matchups, outscoring The Swans 14-2 over that span. Expect another huge result for Manchester City. City simply have too many goal scorers to shut down, with four different players netting double digit goals in all competitions this season (Aguero (25), Sterling (19), Sané (14), Jesus (12)).

City have been absolutely unstoppable in their last 10 matches, going a perfect 10-0-0 over that span. City have clamped down their defense as of late, keeping four clean sheets in their last five matches. City have been a productive away team this season, going 9-2-3 away from home in the league. In their last five away games across all competitions, City have a perfect 5-0-0 record.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

City and Swansea clash in what promises to be an interesting FA Cup quarter-final tie. Despite their sketchy season thus far, Swansea have been a tough team to beat at home as of late. Manchester City will be up for the occasion, as City has walked through any and all opponents since the beginning of February, winning 10 matches in a row. Expect City to produce another large scoreline on Saturday. Pep’s squad has been in unbeatable form in all competitions, and Swansea simply don’t have enough to keep the City attack at bay. Expect to see Riyad Mahrez get a start against Swansea, and to put in an influential performance, earning his side a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
