Tottenham v Chelsea

Spurs are looking very good this season, and they’re looking good in all competitions still. Yet to win a major competition with Spurs still, could this be the season, and potentially Mauricio Pochettino’s last season in North London? With the rumours still circulating of the liklihood of him joining Man Utd in the summer, it could be the last season the Argentine manager has to claim some silverware.

Both teams have won this competition in the past, with Chelsea lifting the cup 5 times to Tottenham’s 4 times.

Tottenham

Currently Spurs sit in third place in the league, having dropped from second place due to Man City picking up their form once again. They’ve been one of the front runners in the league this season constantly chasing down both Man City and Liverpool, waiting for either side to slip up. Spurs could be that silent assassin of the league this season while all eyes are watching Liverpool and Man City.

Although our attention now turns to the League Cup semi-final tie following a week of FA Cup matches. Now at the final stages, Spurs have a very good chance of progressing to the final if they can beat this Chelsea side. The semi final will be played over two legs, with the second leg set to take place on Tuesday 22nd January. Spurs have already brushed aside another London Derby match in this competition by beating their North London rivals Arsenal at their place back in December with a convincing win.

Tottenham League Cup Results

19.12.2018 WIN Arsenal 0 – 2 Tottenham
31.10.2018 WIN West Ham 1 – 3 Tottenham
26.09.2018 WIN Tottenham* 2 – 2 Watford (*4 – 2 on Pens)

Chelsea

Mauizio Sarri is doing a good job at Chelsea and slowly turning the side back into the force they used to be. Chelsea now sit in fourth place right behind Spurs, and with just a four point gap.

The Blues have been notching up the results which reflects their current league standing, although the scorelines tend to be very low, especially when compared with the top two in the league. They’ve actually only scored 6 times in their last 5 league matches which is surprising for a team sitting in the top four of the Premier League.

The odds are very close for this match, and suggest that Chelsea may not be looking to put out the same reserve team that they fielded in last weekend’s cup match. At this stage of the competition both teams will be looking to progress into the final and pick up the first piece of silverware of the season.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

This is actually looking like a pretty exciting match with both teams very evenly matched. This is the first leg of the fixture, so both teams may adopt a more conservative approach to begin with, so we’re expecting a fairly close scoreline. We’re opting for a draw at half time, but Spurs to sneak it in the second half.

Half Time / Full time, Draw / Tottenham @ 6.65 (113/20) with William Hill.

Tottenham to win 1 – 0 @ 11.00 (10/1) with Red Zone.
