Crystal Palace v Man City

Manchester City visit Crystal Palace on Sunday with pressure to perform. City has already lost once to Palace this season, and the trip to Selhurst Park will not be easy.

Crystal Palace

After beating City in December, Crystal Palace are looking to complete the season sweep of the reigning champions on Sunday. Palace are currently sitting in 13th place, but could move up as many as two places in the standings with a win on Sunday. Captain and midfielder Luka Milivojević is leading his team in scoring, and will be looking to add to his 11-goal tally. Milivojevic has scored in two of his last three games, and has proven to be clinical from the penalty spot so far this season. Milivojevic was able to score against City in the first matchup of the season, and will be one of Palace’s most reliable threats to score again on Sunday.

Crystal Palace have been an up and down squad all season, and their recent form backs this up. Palace has a record of 3-0-3 in their last six matches. Crystal Palace has struggled at home this season, and has recorded the second worst home record in the league so far, going 4-4-8. Palace has taken just 16 of a possible 48 in the Premier League, and have went 2-1-2 in their last five home record across all competitions.

Man City

After a tough Champions League loss against Tottenham, Manchester City look to get back to winning ways when they take on Crystal Palace. City are currently in second place in the Premier League standings, two points behind Liverpool. Luckily for City, they do have a game in hand, giving them control of their own destiny in the league. A win on Sunday would put City one point ahead of Liverpool with just five matches left to be played for both teams. Pep Guardiola will have the challenge of picking the right squad, as the second leg Champions League tie against Tottenham will be on his mind. Expect star striker Sergio Aguero and creative midfielder David Silva to be rested for most of this game, giving Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne a chance to start the pivotal league game on Sunday. This has the potential to be a breakout performance for De Bruyne, who has been working his way back to fitness after injuries kept him out for significant time this season. With Sterling and Sane making runs for De Bruyne, it will be a game full of chances for Manchester City as they look to retake their lead in the Premier League.

Despite losing in the Champions League midweek, Manchester City are in great form ahead of their matchup with Crystal Palace. City has won their last eight games in the Premier League, and has a solid record of 5-0-1 in their last six matches in all competitions. Man City has been a solid road team all season and has recorded a 10-2-3 record in 15 away matches, taking 32 points from a possible 45. In their last five away games, City has a record of 4-0-1 across all competitions.

  • Manchester City has scored first in seven of their last nine matches

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Sunday provides Manchester City a chance to redeem their loss against Palace earlier this season, as well as a chance to go back on top of the Premier League table. City will have the luxury of refreshing their squad with hungry flair players. Look for Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling to dismantle this Palace defense in a matchup that looks like it could go City’s way early. Pep will want his squad to start early in order to avoid a slow, defensive match from Palace. Expect City to force an open game, inviting goals from both teams. Bettors should consider taking City on the spread, as a -1.5 line looks like an attractive line for a team who is chasing a Premier League title.
