Liverpool v Chelsea

In the biggest game of the weekend, title challenging Liverpool host a hungry Chelsea side, who are hunting for a top four finish this season.

Liverpool

For the second season in a row, Liverpool has put themselves in great positions in multiple competitions. The Reds are coming off of a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their quarterfinal Champions League tie against Porto. In addition, Liverpool have accumulated 82 points after 33 games played, and are currently at the top of the Premier League. With Manchester City continuing to win in the league, it is essential that the Reds put in a big home performance on Sunday to stay in the race for the title. Liverpool and Chelsea battled it out for a 1-1 draw in their first meeting this season, but things could be much different this time around. Liverpool has settled into a nice flow in the Premier League, and has not lost a game in the league since January. Expect another inspired performance on Sunday, as Liverpool will be able to field their strongest side. Look for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to have heavy influences on this matchup. The two players have a combined 35 Premier League goals between themselves this season, and will have an opportunity to add even more at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool are in terrific from ahead of their clash against Chelsea. The Reds are riding a six match winning streak across all competitions, going 6-0-0. Liverpool are at home on Sunday, and are still the only team to not lose a game at home yet this season. Liverpool are 14-2-0 in 16 home games, and have a record of 4-0-1 in their last five home matches across all competitions.

Chelsea

Chelsea visit Anfield on Sunday in a huge Premier League matchup. The Blues have quietly positioned themselves well in the league standings. Chelsea is sitting in the fourth and final Champions League spot in the league table, and have a chance to jump back into third place with a win over Liverpool. After a rough start to the season, a defensive resurgence has allowed this Chelsea team to creep back into the top four race. The Blues have tightened their defensive line at the back, and have conceded just once in their last four league games. Captain Cesar Azpilicueta has been able to adjust to the defensive tactics of Maurizio Sarri, giving Chelsea a shot at qualifying for the Champions League. The depth of this Chelsea squad will be tested though, as the Blues have the second leg of their Europa League tie against a resilient Slavia Praha side on Thursday. Sarri is expected to choose his strongest XI against Liverpool, with impact players like Gonzalo Higuain and Eden Hazard predicted to be the first names on the team sheet. Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to get his third Premier League start of the season after his recent performances. This Chelsea team seems to be finding their form at the right time of the season, and has the potential to pull of an upset against Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea has won their last four matches, and has a record of 5-0-1 in their last six matches across all competitions. Chelsea are the fifth best away team in the Premier League this season. The Blues have a 9-1-6 record in 16 away matches, taking 28 of a possible 48 points on the road. In their last five away games, Chelsea has an impressive record of 4-0-1.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Two of the Premier League’s best attackers will be in action on Sunday when Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard lead their respective squads into battle. Both teams will need a huge result from Sunday’s matchup, meaning that their will be goals. At just 2.5 goals, the line for this match looks low, especially considering all of the attacking talent on the pitch. Bettors should be leaning towards taking the over in this one, as both teams have plenty of firepower to put the ball in the back of the net. A 2-1 victory for Liverpool is our prediction for this stellar Premier League matchup.
