Man City v Chelsea

Two teams who have different goals for the rest of the season face off on Sunday when Chelsea visit Manchester City. Pep Guardiola and City will be looking go level with Liverpool on points at the top of a table with a win, while Chelsea will be looking to get any kind of result as they find themselves in a three way race for fourth position.

Man City

The pressure is back on City after Liverpool dispatched of Bournemouth on Saturday. City are three points back of The Reds, and will need to get a win against Chelsea on Sunday to keep the pace. Kevin de Bruyne, who was possibly City’s best player last season, has only made four starts this season. The Belgian midfielder has been ravished with injuries this season, but has made a return to fitness over the last month, and looks to be near his best. De Bruyne did not start in the midweek fixture against Everton, and is expected to be chosen in Pep’s starting XI on Sunday. Look for Kevin de Bruyne to have his breakout game on Sunday, as the occasion against Chelsea will be an ideal stage for the City midfielder to burst back on the Premier League season.

City enter the game as a team in form. Guardiola and his squad has won four of the last five games, and have put themselves in a position to challenge for a second consecutive title. City has earned the most points from home games out of any Premier League team this season, winning 12 of 13. City has went 4-0-1 in last 5 home games.

Raheem Sterling has been one of the most dangerous and productive players in the Premier League this season. Sterling has scored 10 goals and given 9 assists in the league this season, tying him for second in the league for assists. Sterling has had yet another sparkling season under the management of Pep Guardiola, who has found the perfect style to fit the speedy wing play of Sterling. Look for the young englishman to gash the Chelsea defense, targeting the right back position.

Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri has had an eventful first year at the helm of Chelsea Football Club. The Italian has struggled to find the same team spirit and fluidity he had established at his former club, Napoli. Chelsea been inconsistent for a majority of this season, lacking a legitimate threat in front of goal, with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata failing to produce. In January, Sarri brought in Gonzalo Higuain, Higuain played under Sarri for one season at Napoli, in which he went on to lead Serie A in scoring (36 goals). Higuain adds a clinical striker with high quality movement from the top line, giving a passing option to the creative midfielders of Willian and Eden Hazard. The addition of Higuain could go a long way in relieving some of the responsibility of Hazard, who has accounted for 12 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season, roughly 50% of the goals scored by Chelsea.

Chelsea has been shaky in the last month of action, going 2-1-2 in their last five games, including a 0-4 loss to Bournemouth two fixtures ago. Away from home, Chelsea is 3-2 in their last 5 games, and has a away record of 7-1-4 on the season.

Gonzalo Higuain is set to start his third game for Chelsea, and will be looking to add onto the two goals he scored last week in the 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town. Chelsea will have to be clinical with their chances if they want to score on Sunday, as Manchester City has only conceded 11 times in 13 matches at the Etihad. If Chelsea are going to get a result on Sunday, it will be through the main man Higuain, who must make the most out of what is created.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Chelsea had a couple days of extra rest before this one, and that may end up playing a factor in the way this one plays out. The newly acquainted combination of Gonzalo Higuain and Eden Hazard will be excited to play again after such a dazzling performance against an inferior Huddersfield side. The midfield matchup promises to be a great one, with N’Golo Kante, Barkley, and Jorginho matching up with Fernandinho, David Silva, and Kevin de Bruyne. Overall, this game promises goals from both teams, with a “both teams scoring” bet looking ideal.
