Man Utd v West Ham

The race for a top four finish resumes for Manchester United as West Ham visits Old Trafford on Saturday.

Man Utd

Manchester United are in dire need of a win when they host West Ham. United are currently occupying the sixth place position in the Premier League, just three points behind 4th place Tottenham. Third place Chelsea have a very tough fixture away at Liverpool, giving Manchester United a chance to gain some ground in the standings. Additionally, United will want to avenge their 3-1 loss suffered at West Ham on matchday seven of the Premier League season. With a different manager at the helm, and with a league table to climb, expect a no-nonsense performance from this United team. One hurdle that the Red Devils will need to clear is the rotation of the squad. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must find a way to keep his team fresh and healthy in between Champions League fixtures. Look for Anthony Martial to find his way back into the starting Xl after not starting against Barcelona midweek. Martial hit the 10 goal mark in his last start, and will be looking for more as the Red Devils battle the Hammers at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United have hit a rocky patch recently, going 2-0-4 in their last six matches in all competitions. Fortunate for United, they are at home Saturday, where they have a 9-5-1 record this season, taking 32 points from a possible 45. In their last five home matches in all competitions, United has a record of 2-1-2, with both losses coming in the Champions League (PSG, Barcelona).

West Ham

West Ham visit Manchester United on Saturday as the big underdogs. Not many have West Ham getting any kind of positive result out of this fixture against United, but this match will be closer than many think. Manchester United are coming off of a tough loss against a dangerous Barcelona side in the Champions League. United played hard that game, and will have thoughts of their second leg tie in the back of their head. This will give West Ham an opportunity to take advantage of a United side that will likely lack a cutting edge about them. Danger man Marko Arnautovic is due a goal, and has the potential to produce in big matches like these. If West Ham can put in a rare defensive performance in against United, look for Arnautovic to be the Hammer’s best chance at winning this one at Old Trafford.

West Ham are out of form ahead of their match against Manchester United. The Hammers are 2-0-4 in their last six matches. Away from home, West Ham has been one of the worst teams in the league. Pellegrini’s side is 4-3-9 in 16 matches away from home, taking 15 points form a possible 48. West Ham are an abysmal 0-1-4 in their last five home matches.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Saturday is truly a must-win game for Manchester United and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After signing a permanent deal with the club just weeks ago, Solskjaer
has failed in justifying his contract. With United slipping out of the race for the top four, Saturday’s match with West Ham will be filled with pressure. That being said, this West Ham squad is not bringing too much to the table. The Hammers have been a disappointment so far this season, and have struggled on the road all year. This match looks like a straightforward Manchester United victory, the only question is by how much? Bettors will have a tough decision to make, as most sportsbooks have this one at a -1.5 spread for United.
