Pep Guardiola expects stiff competition for title race

Ahead of the Everton v Man City match this evening, Pep Guardiola has insisted that the title race is far from over indicating what he believes will end up being decided by the final fixtures of the season.

Man City are looking to secure their fourth Premier League title this year, whereas for Liverpool it will be their first ever Premier League title, and their first top flight league title in over 27 years.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Pep Guardiola said:

“It takes a big mental effort to be consistent in every single competition, when you know, if you lose one game, you can lose that competition. It demands a lot of stress,” he said.

“At the same time, when you get to March, the days are longer, the sun is out, the training sessions are in better conditions and you can take a coffee outside. If you are still in four competitions it is an extra plus because you realise you can do something special.

“But, right now, we are not in that position.”

As it stands Man City are favourites to withstand the pressure and win the 2018/19 Premier League title at odds of 2.00 (evens), with Liverpool right behind them at 2.25 (5/4).

Expectations remain high for Liverpool this season, although with Man City’s ability to remain calm under pressure could prove the difference between the two sides.

Another battle within the war could be who manages to bag the top EPL goalscorer award too. Currently with Man City and Liverpool battling out for this also. Mohamed Salah sits at odds of 2.10 (6/5) who currently sits at the top of the table with 16 goals. Salah’s challenger being Sergio Aguero with odds of 3.80 (14/5) and currently residing in third place.
