Week 26 of the Premier League threw up some interesting results so we thought we’d take a moment to digest everything in a short recap of the weekend’s action. The final game of Matchday 26 takes place tonight between Wolves v Newcastle, then the Premier League breaks for a week to make way for the Champions League and Europa League.
Pogba Scores Brace; Manchester United Win Again Under Solskjær
Fulham 0 – 3 Man Utd
Manchester United remain undefeated under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, picking up their eighth win in nine games. Paul Pogba scored in each half, netting his 10th and 11th goals in the league this season. Anthony Martial scored one of the goals of the weekend, dribbling from midfield, taking on three Fulham defenders before sliding the ball into the corner of the goal. With the Win, United retains their fourth place position, with their next league match against rivals Liverpool.
Liverpool Easily Handle Bournemouth At Anfield
Liverpool 3 – 0 Bournemouth
The Reds had no problem collecting all three points at home on Saturday, overpowering an inferior Bournemouth side, winning 3-0. The usual suspects were up to their tricks as Sadio Mane scored in his fourth game running, and Premier League scoring leader Mohamed Salah added another to his tally, making it 17 goals for the season in the league. Liverpool still have a game in hand over Manchester City, who are level at the top of the table with the Reds.
Shorthanded Arsenal Sneak Past Huddersfield
Huddersfield Town 1 – 2 Arsenal
Unai Emery was without a number of his key players on Saturday, with Arsenal playing without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, and Aaron Ramsey. First half goals from Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette put the gunners up 2-0 at halftime. A late own goal scored by Sead Kolasinac led to a nervous final minutes for Arsenal, but the gunners got it done in the end, 2-1 over Huddersfield Town. Arsenal are in fifth place, just one point behind fourth place Manchester United.
Aguero Scores Record Hattrick As City Embarrass Chelsea 6-0
Man City 6 – 0 Chelsea
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero scored his 11th Premier League hattrick on Sunday, drawing him level with Alan Shearer for most all time in the English top flight. Raheem Sterling scored twice, and midfielder İlkay Gündoğan found the net once in the win for City, putting them level at the top of the table with Liverpool.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri admitted that his job may be in question after the humiliating defeat at the Etihad. Just a week and a half after losing 4-0 to Bournemouth, Chelsea put in yet another poor performance. Chelsea trailed 4-0 after just 25 minutes, and conceded twice in the second half, dealing a blow to the Blues chances at a top 4 finish.
