Chelsea and Slavia Praha return to Europa League action on Thursday in the first of two legs in an intriguing Europa League tie.

Chelsea

Chelsea were able to pull a favorable draw in the quarterfinals, matching up with Czech side Slavia Praha. The Blues have had a smooth ride in the Europa League so far, and at times it has appeared the the Europa League squad chosen by manager Maurizio Sarri has been his most dangerous side. Young players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been chosen for eight of ten Europa League matches for Chelsea, and have both thrived in the competition. The pair is responsible for seven goals and four assists in the Europa League so far and will be looking for even more on Thursday. Sarri has made it clear that Olivier Giroud is his Europa League striker, and the Frenchman has produced in a big way. Giroud has a Europa leading nine goals so far in the tournament. Look for Giroud to have a big impact on Thursday’s game, as his size and experience will play a big factor in the first leg of Chelsea’s Europa League quarterfinal tie.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Chelsea and Slavia Praha clash in Prague on Thursday, and this one could get interesting. Chelsea have been in good form lately, but will be challenged by a physical and confident Slavia Praha side. While Chelsea is currently in the top four in the Premier League, they still have not locked up Champions League soccer for next season. That being said, this tournament could be Chelsea’s ticket to Champions League qualifications. Look for the blues to play their strongest side in the first leg, as the occasion is just to big to take any chances. We are predicting a Chelsea win, but not by much. A spread bet on Slavia Praha (+1.5) looks like a decent wager, as the Czech side has not lost by more than one goal at home in over seven months.
