Multiple sources have reported that Real Madrid left-back Marcelo and Italian side Juventus have agreed to terms that will see Marcelo join the side at the conclusion of this season. Even though Marcelo has also appeared to state that Madrid is still his home.
The news comes just days after Real Madrid was embarrassingly beaten 4-1 at the Bernabeu, knocking Los Blancos out of the Champions League. Marcelo was not involved in the match, as he has fallen out of favor in Madrid, with 22-year old Sergio Reguilon receiving most of the playing time at right back. It’s being speculated that the lack of game time, plus the toxic atmosphere around Real Madrid this season, has led Marcelo to leave Madrid come the end of the season.
Marcelo has been with Real Madrid since 2007. The Brazilian international has 333 appearances and 25 goals for the club. Often considered the best left-back in the world over the past decade, Marcelo has won it all for Madrid, including four La Liga titles, two Copa Del Rey trophies, four Club World Cups, and four Champions League titles. At just 30 years of age, Marcelo still has a chance to add more to his illustrious career, as he is joining a stacked Juventus side next season.
Although terms may have been agreed upon, the finalization of this deal may take weeks, or even months. Marcelo is another player that will not require a transfer fee, as his Real Madrid contract is expiring in under six months. The Brazilian looks set to to become the second huge talent that Juventus has been able to add for no cost, after Aaron Ramsey agreed to terms with the Italian club just weeks ago. Even before the transfer window is open, the Italian giants have already taken care of big business.
