Seattle Sounders look to remain perfect on their first road trip, while the Chicago Fire seek their first win of the season.
Even though their record does not reflect it, Chicago has played better than what it shows. They put on a good performance in the season opener in LA, taking a loss. Facing Orlando City in their home opener, the Fire salvaged a tie with a stoppage time goal by C.J. Sapong, earning their first point of the 2019 campaign. The only player to score a goal for Chicago thus far.
Upon closer inspection, Chicago has been vulnerable in the back. They’ve shown to have trouble withstanding pressure, specifically the back line. Orlando had a field day exposing this, frequently getting behind them with ease. To combat this deficiency, coach Veljko Paunovic has loaded up on numbers behind the ball whenever possible, which has for the most part kept them in games. On the flip side, it’s prevented them from doing too much on the offensive side. As a result, the outside backs along with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Dax McCarty have been hesitant in threatening forward. They’ll get some help with the official acquisition of new attacking piece, Argentina National Team midfielder Nicolás Gaitán.

After two victories to start the year, the Seattle Sounders leave their friendly confines on a high note fresh off a 2-0 win against the Colorado Rapids. Getting off to a hot start was a point of emphasis for a team that has struggled getting out of the gate in recent years. In fact, they’ve already earned more points in March than their previous three March’s put together, and we’re barely half way through the month yet.
Sounders forward Raúl Rudíaz has been sizzling, scoring in back-to-back games, making it ten goals in his last seven games going back to last year. Also on a tear is right back Kelvin Leerdam, scoring in each game so far. Seattle will continue to lean on the left, a strength with Victor Rodriguez and Brad Smith manning the side creating scoring chances consistently.

Our Verdict and Best Bets
Seattle is rolling, meshing, and in midseason form. Unless Chicago gets off their heels, this game will be more of what we’ve been seeing from each team through two weeks.
