LA Galaxy v New England Revolution

The LA Galaxy (9-1-5) look to continue their strong start to the season when they host the New England Revolution (3-4-8) on Sunday night.

LA Galaxy

Things are starting to come together for the Galaxy, as they have positioned themselves well early in this MLS season. LA is second in both the Western Conference and the entire MLS, as they’ve been able to piece together a strong campaign to this point. 37-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a huge part in the success, as the Swede has contributed 10 goals and three assists in just 11 matches. Ibra has scored three goals in his last five games, making him our player to watch for the Galaxy. With the ability to strike the ball from anywhere near the 18 yard box and the aerial threat that he offers, Ibrahimovic will require special attention by the New England defense if he is to be held at bay.

The Galaxy come into this match on the tail end of a poor run of form. LA has won their last two matches, but had struggled before these wins, putting up a 2-0-4 record in their last six matches. At home, the Galaxy have been a tough team to beat. LA has a 6-0-2 record in eight home matches, with a 3-0-2 record in their last five matches at home.

New England Revolution

The Revolution will have to turn up their scoring production if they expect to have any chance of picking up a result in LA. New England has scored just 15 goals in their first 15 games of the season, the second lowest tally in the entire league. When they have scored, midfielder Carles Gil was likely a part of the goal. Gil has been one bright spot in this New England side in his first season with the club. He leads the Revolution in scoring with four goals, and has an assist, making himself directly a part of a third of the goals scored by New England so far this season. With the Revolution playing away, Gil will likely have a few chances to make something happen with the space that will be available due to an attacking Galaxy side. Despite coming into this match as the underdog, New England will have a decent shot at earning some points on the road if Gil and other New England attackers are able to take advantage of their chances.

New England have struggled leading up to their matchup in LA. The Revolution have an abysmal record of 1-3-2 in their last six league games. Away from home, the form has not gotten any better. The Revolution have earned just three points all season on the road, and have a 0-3-4 record to show for their performances. In their last five road matches, New England has went 0-2-3.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

This is a match that features two teams that are far from each other in the standings. The Galaxy have looked like one of the MLS’s best teams when they are clicking. With two straight wins under their belt, Sunday night presents another winnable match for the Galaxy as they try to put some distance between themselves and the other top contenders in the Western Conference. Bettors can expect LA to take care of business on Sunday night. The Revolution have struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks, and a trip out West will do nothing to help turn that trend around. Look for a sluggish Revolution team to continue their poor road form against a solid squad in the Galaxy.
