New York Red Bulls v Atlanta United

Atlanta United (6-2-3) will look to continue their win streak when they visit the New York Red Bulls (4-2-5) on Sunday. Atlanta United could crack the top five in the MLS with a win, while three points would propel the Red Bulls to 18 points and a chance at a top 10 position in the standings.

New York Red Bulls

The season has started slow for the Red Bulls, who find themselves near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. No player has scored more than two goals for the Red Bulls this season, suggesting that the problems of the Red Bulls lie in the attacking department. Fortunately for the Red Bulls, Sunday’s game against Atlanta United could see the return of striker Bradley Wright-Phillips. Wright-Phillips has scored the most goals of any Red Bulls player in history (128 goals), and will offer an experienced scorer at the top of this New York attacking line. New York will be after all three points, as a win would see the Red Bulls side into one of the seven playoff positions in the Eastern Conference.

New York has been in decent form ahead of a big game against Atlanta United. The Red Bulls have won three of their last four games, going 3-1-2 in their last six matches. The Red Bulls will host Atlanta United on Sunday, representing the seventh home game of the season for New York. The Red Bulls are 3-0-3 in six home games to this point.

Atlanta United

The reigning MLS Cup champs are back in action and climbing the MLS standings. Atlanta has won five consecutive games, and have began to look like one of the most dangerous sides in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta United has come up big in the defensively, conceding just eight goals so far this season. Atlanta United hasn’t conceded in any of their previous five matches, making them one of the most reliable defenses in the MLS this season. Combine this high level defense with the scoring potential of Josef Martinez, and Atlanta United become one of the most well-rounded squads in the league for a second straight season. Martinez started the season slow, but has turned it on as of late, scoring three goals in his last four appearances.

Atlanta United hit the road as MLS’s hottest team. Atlanta has won their last five matches, and are repping a 5-0-1 record in their last six matches. Sunday’s game against the Red Bulls will be the sixth road game for Atlanta United, who are 3-0-2 in five away games so far. Atlanta United has conceded just four goals away from home this season, an MLS-low.

  • Atlanta United has recorded five consecutive clean sheets

Our Verdict and Best Bets

The Red Bulls host Atlanta United in a clash of two of the Eastern Conferences better teams. New York has beaten Atlanta in each of the last two matches they’ve played in New York, recording shutout victories in the postseason and regular season. This time around, betting predictions on this match could depend on the health of Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips. If Wright-Phillips is healthy, the Red Bulls are a decent bet on the +.5 at home (-180). If the striker is not fit, expect Atlanta United to be to much for the Red Bulls to keep at bay, getting the job done away from home.
