Vancouver Whitecaps v LA Galaxy

The Vancouver Whitecaps (0-3-1) finally puts a point on the board leaving the San Jose Earthquakes as the only pointless MLS team, while the LA Galaxy (3-1-0) jockey for position atop the Western Conference.

Vancouver Whitecaps

The Whitecaps will have their hands full with or without Ibrahamovic as the Galaxy feature a high-powered midfield that can hold their own whether attacking or setting up others. Romain Alessandrini, Uriel Antuna, Jona dos Santos, Joe Corona, and Sebastian Lleget make up a fierce combination for any defense to handle, especially for this Vancouver team who has given up seven goals in three games before their scoreless tie. As new head coach Marc Dos Santos has stressed in the lead up to this game, while LA has players that can strike with a blink of an eye, the key will be in keeping their discipline in defending as a group and believe they can come out with their second clean sheet in a row.

LA Galaxy

LA Galaxy took advantage of Ibrahamovic’s return from Achilles injury, punching in two goals from the penalty spot for a 2-1 win over a struggling Portland Timbers team, raising his season total to three. However, considering he’s not one to play on artificial turf, the Galaxy may have to take on the Whitecaps without their star. All time against Vancouver, the Galaxy have owned the series with a strong 10-5-5 record, drawing in their last visit.

It only took four games and a Cascadia Cup match for Vancouver to earn their first point of the season in a tie against tough rivals and undefeated Seattle Sounders. A little relief considering three one-goal losses to start the season. While their spirits have lifted, the Galaxy bring a tough set of challenges.

Our Verdict and Best Bets

Vancouver will be on their heels and the question will be if they can keep the Galaxy from penetrating. It will be tough to do for a full 90. Look for LA to keep up with the Jones’s at the top of the Western Conference standings.
